Gavin_picTravelling around Scotland one of the most common questions I am asked is “Why does s1 not have an app?”

Most times when the question is presented to me it’s at an s1essentials or product launch event during the Q&A session, so sometimes I am often unable to give a complete answer. It’s a hotly contested debate and thus requires a proper explanation…

One thing is certain, mobile is important, especially in Scotland. Mobile usage has grown faster in Scotland than any other UK nation. 93% of adults own a mobile phone and many use it to access the internet every day. With this in mind, it will come as no surprise that over 40% of s1jobs traffic comes from a mobile audience. So the discussion is around how best to handle this shift in traffic.

Recruiters need to account for the counter-offer

Successful counter-offers create pain for (almost) everyone. Across IT in the UK, some 21% of those planning to move jobs have been counter-offered.

The candidate at least has some more money and/or a promotion, but their loyalty is questioned – and the majority go on to leave within one year. The recruiter is less trusted because they haven’t delivered and the client is back to square one.

However, there is a more fundamental issue here.  Specifically, does the counter-offer culture mean that recruiters and candidates haven’t done the necessary preparation to ensure that the job is one that the candidate really wants?

Mathers joins corporate team at Henderson Loggie 

Accountancy  firm Henderson Loggie has recruited Rod Mathers as a partner in its corporate finance team.

Mr Mathers joins with more than 20 years’ corporate finance experience gleaned from professional services market and sectors such as engineering services, manufacturing, energy and life sciences.

A former senior figure at a “big four” accountant, he has been tasked with supporting the growth and succession plans of Henderson Loggie’s clients, and on creating other deals around Scotland.

Judges bring new expertise to s1 Recruitment Awards

An expert panel of judges, including Bonnie Clarke who was ‘Female Director of the Year’ at the Institute of Directors last year, will select the winners for the s1 Recruitment Awards, to be staged on Thursday 2 April.

Her fellow judges include Tricia Paine, resourcing manager at Clydesdale Bank, who was a judge in 2014, and new panel members Stephen O’Donnell, founder of PC Evaluate, Nicola Taylor from Scotland IS, Emma Mirrington, founder of The Firm, and Lynsey Chambers, training centre manager at City Building Glasgow, whose team scooped the Apprenticeship Award at the s1 awards in 2014.

Isla Monteith has been promoted to partner for retail services, while and Stephen Bibby has been elevated to the same level for the firm’s retail capital markets operation.
